WWW Wednesday #7: March 27, 2019 and Fantasy AdventureAThon Update

www wednesday

I’m back this week with my answers to Taking On A World Of Words‘s three W questions:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

CURRENTLY READING

2A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin — 42%

I read this back in 2014 so before I go on with the series I need to reread this one. I gave it four stars the first time. I’m reading this one on audiobook, but I think that for the rest of the series I better pick up the physical copy.

1A Wicked King by Holly Black — 69%

There’s a lot I like with this series, but there’s a spark missing. I’ve been avoiding spoilers, but from what I’ve seen I hope it finishes strong.

I’ve read a total of 588 pages and this makes two readathon posts so I have a total of 628pts. A Wicked King is due back at the library tomorrow so I haven’t been able to pick up any other book on my TBR (or finish any challenge).

RECENTLY READ

10Pride by Ibi Zoboi | ★★☆☆☆

This started out really well. The setting was perfect for this retelling and from the first page the characters (especially Mr. Benitez) reminded me of Austen’s originals. After that I quickly got bored with the very tell-tell-tell writing. I didn’t care about any of the characters because the only one who had any personality was Zuri and she was way too judgemental (and pissed off when people judged her). Neither her nor Darius had any kind of character development so their going from hate to love was unbelievable.

8Front Desk by Kelly Yang | ★★★☆☆

My rating is more because I wasn’t the target audience than because of the book itself. My enjoyment was a two or three star, but structurally it deserves a four. The motel setting was unique and interesting and Mia was a lovable character and her passion for writing was sweet and inspiring. For the first half if I put the book down I didn’t really want to pick it back up, but by the end I loved Mia and her motel family.

Sans titre (1)Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram | ★★★★★

It made me cry, it made me laugh. I can’t believe I almost didn’t read this book. It has great depression rep and it managed to have both a present family and a complicated parent/child relationship.

Sans titre99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne | DNF

I read a bit more than a third of this book, but at every chapter I thought about putting it down. I loved The Hating Game but this didn’t have the same charm.

WHAT’S NEXT

I haven’t looked further than the end of the Fantasy AdventureAThon (My TBR). I have some library books left so I will probably go with those.

LIFE

At the beginning of March I made my brother read Every Heart A Doorway and now he wants to continue on with the series! This is a first. He might humour me and read the books I recommend, but he never goes on to the second book.
